HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Maryville wrapped up its Spring Break trip to Hilton Head Wednesday afternoon with an 8-1 victory over St. Mary's (Md.) at the Hilton Head Beach & Tennis Club.
The Scots went 2-1 in the Spring Break Tennis Fest, matching last season's performance in the same tournament.
"Solid effort from our girls today," Maryville head coach
Doug Corbett said. "We meshed during this trip on and off the court. I am feeling good about the doubles' pairings and our team chemistry. We are getting contributions up and down the lineup and I am happy for them."
For the second match in a row, Maryville started strong with a sweep in doubles play. Kaitlyn Cook and
Elizabeth Shwaiko defeated their opponents 8-1 on the No. 1 doubles court while the Duo of
Abby Diggs and
Alyssa Smith won their match on the No. 2 court by the same score.
Josie McRae rounded out the Doubles matchups with an 8-3 victory at No. 3.
The Scots also won five of six singles matches in the Contest. On the No. 2 court, Cook downed her opponent 6-1, 6-4 while Diggs took care of business at No. 3 6-3, 6-1.
Smith handled her opponent at No.4 6-2, 6-0 and Brown won on the No. 5 court 6-2, 6-1. They are tied for the best record on the Scots, both sitting at 8-5 for the season. Smith has now won four consecutive matches, the longest current streak on the squad.
Mandy Webb rounded out the wins for the Scots, defeating her opponent 7
7-6
4 at the No. 6 position.
Up next for the Scots, Maryville returns to East Tennessee on Wednesday, March 20, for a matchup against local NAIA foe Johnson in Knoxville. That match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
