Maryville Takes Two from Kentuckians 29-0, 18-1

BEREA, Ky. – Maryville opened Collegiate Conference of the South play in impressive fashion Saturday, thumping Berea 29-0 and 18-1 in a doubleheader.
 
Who sparkled offensively for the Scots? Everyone! Here's the breakdown:
  • Ava Whitmire was a perfect 6-for-6, going 3-for-3 in both games. She had a double in the opener to go with two runs scored and four driven in. Whitmire added another run scored in the nightcap.
  • Bailey Myers was 6-for-10 with five runs scored and five driven in. The shortstop went 3-for-5 in both games, but she really excelled in Game 1. She had a pair of doubles, scored four times and drove in four. The second game saw her add one more run and another RBI.
  • Brecca Williams finished 5-for-10 with six runs scored and three RBIs. She laced a pair of doubles in the opener, helping her score three times and drive in two during a 3-for-6 performance. Williams was 2-for-4 in the nightcap with three runs scored, one driven in and a stolen base.
  • Paige Dickinson went 4-for-6 with two runs score and eight RBIs. Eight! She was 1-for-2 in the opener with a sacrifice fly, a double and three driven in. In Game 2, Dickinson was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and five more driven home.
  • Cierra Hudson combined to go 4-for-6 with four runs scored and five driven in. She was a perfect 2-for-2 in the opener with a double, a pair of runs scored and three RBIs. Hudson also was hit by a pitch. In the second game, she was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and two more driven in.
  • Emily Hill finished 3-for-4 with four runs scored and two driven in. Hill was 1-for-2 in the opener with a double, a sacrifice fly, two runs scored and two RBIs. In Game 2, the left-handed hitter was a perfect 2-for-2 with another two runs scored and a hit-by-pitch.
  • Kaitlin Woodruff played in Game 1 and went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two driven in.
  • Sara Koonce finished 4-for-8 with six runs scored and three driven in. The first game saw her go 3-for-5 with five runs scored, a triple, a stolen base and a hit-by-pitch. Koonce in the nightcap went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs.
  • Maya St. John combined to go 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. St. John was particularly sharp in Game 2, going 1-for-1 with a double, two runs scored and her run driven in.
  • Micayla Clark combined to go 2-for-4 with four runs scored and five driven in. She was 1-for-2 in both games, scoring three times in the first game and driving in two. In the second game, Clark added a sacrifice fly, a run scored and three RBIs.
  • Courtney Baine went 1-for-2 in both games.
  • Haynie Jane Gilstrap combined for a 2-for-5 showing with four runs scored and one RBI. She was 2-for-2 in the opener with three runs scored and an RBI. Gilstrap added another run scored and a stolen base in the nightcap.
  • Emma Blankenship combined for a 1-for-3 afternoon with a hit-by-pitch and three runs scored.
  • Emily Cox in Game 2 went 1-for-1 with a run scored and one RBI.
  • And congratulations to Sarah Phelps on her first base hit of the season! She singled home a run in Game 1, finishing 1-for-3.
Over the doubleheader, Maryville outscored Berea 47-1 and outhit the Mountaineers 45-4.

Megan Ackerman went the distance in Game 1 for her ninth victory of the season. Ackerman allowed just two hits and struck out nine without issuing a walk.
 
Whitney Carr started the second game but could not qualify for the win with just two innings pitched. So Paige Dickinson earned the victory with a perfect inning of relief, bumping her record to 2-1.
 
The Scots are back in Kentucky on Tuesday to take on Transylvania. Start time for the doubleheader is 3:30 p.m.
