Scots Fall to East Tennessee Foe Johnson

Seth Green Wins Third-Straight Match

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Maryville fell to NAIA-foe Johnson 5-2 Wednesday afternoon.

The Royals earned one point by winning two-out-of-three doubles matches – NAIA rules count the doubles results as one point in the match, unlike the three points credited by NCAA Division III rules.

The duo of Kaleb Burke and Jonathan Crane won the No. 2 doubles match 6-3 while Jackson Meyer and James Smith lost via tiebreaker at No. 1 710-66.

Smith bounced back from his doubles loss, taking his match at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-1. The sophomore is 6-4 over his last 10 matches at the position.

Seth Green picked up the second point for MC, downing his opponent 2-6, 7-5, 110-07 on the No. 5 court. Green now has a team-high three-match winning streak and leads his squad with a 7-6 individual record.

Maryville is back at the MC Tennis courts Thursday afternoon for its Spring home opener against Capital. The scheduled start time for that match is 1 p.m.
