Box Score MARYVILLE – Maryville picked up its first victory of the season Thursday afternoon, winning in dominant fashion over short-handed Capital 8-1 in its first home game of the Spring season.
The Scots swept the doubles matches, jumping ahead early with a 3-0 advantage before taking five of six matches in singles competition.
The Comets had just four players, but Maryville was able to win five of the six matches played to take the match without factoring in the three forfeit victories.
Jackson Meyer and
James Smith opened the scoring for MC in the contest, taking down their opponents 8-1 in the No. 1 doubles position. The duo of
Kaleb Burke and
Jonathan Crane made quick work of their opponents at No. 2 as well, winning their match 8-2.
Jackson Meyer picked up a commanding victory at No. 2 singles, sweeping his opponent 6-0, 6-0.
Gabriel Villalonga Serra and
Ben Wyrick triumphed at No. 3 and No. 4, winning 6-2, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-4, respectively.
With the victory, the Scots snapped an 11-game skid to start the 2023-24 regular season.
Up next, Maryville will return to the MC Tennis Courts on Friday, March 29, for a matchup against Roanoke, before jumping into CCS play on Saturday, March 30 in a home bout against Berea.
