James Montgomery Tabbed to Lead MC Men's Tennis

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Maryville men's tennis has its coach; James Montgomery of Farragut, Tennessee, has been named head coach of the Scots, the first after the split of the men's and women's tennis head coaching positions.
 
Coach Montgomery comes to The Hill with more than 16 years of experience coaching tennis, leading collegiate and academy programs, and, most recently, running the Montgomery Tennis Academy, an organization he founded.
 
"I'm extremely excited to be coaching the men's tennis team at Maryville College," Montgomery said. "I am grateful for this opportunity. I look forward to meeting all the players, getting to know each one of them, and having a fantastic season."
 
Montgomery, a PTR and USPTA-certified tennis professional, previously coached at Berea College, leading the mountaineers from 2014-2016, where he prided himself in the development of his athletes and the creation of a strong culture of success and learning.
"Coach Montgomery brings successful Division III head coaching experience and a strong local reputation as a tennis trainer," Director of Athletics Dr. Andrew Wu said. "James came in with great enthusiasm and excitement about the growth of tennis at Maryville College and was eager to continue improving as we step into the SAA."
Montgomery then continued;
 
"I would like to thank Dr. Andrew Wu and his great team at Maryville for the opportunity, and I look forward to working with them to create an unforgettable experience for our athletes. I'd also like to take this time to thank my family: Mom, Dad, and Jessi for always being supportive. I would also like to thank Coach Bobby Smith and William Taylor for being great mentors over the years."
 
Coach Montgomery is a two-time graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, having earned both a B.S. and M.S. from the school; his undergrad in Health Science and his graduate degree in Physical Education and Sports Administration.
