MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Following an impactful regular season, the Maryville Scots Men's and Women's Tennis team have garnered post-season recognitions from the CCS. With multiple All-Conference selections and both a Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year recognition, these accolades will continue to push the Scots forward through their post-season play.
Steven Fitzsimmons – Rookie of the Year
Steven Fitzsimmons came out of the gate swinging in his first season at Maryville, posting a 10-4 singles record and excelling in doubles play with partner
James Smith, netting an 11-5 record on the regular season. Fitzsimmons's efforts were routinely recognized throughout the season with three CCS Rookie of the Week honors and two Doubles Team of the Week selections that he shared with Smith. He is the first Maryville player to receive Rookie of the Year honors in program history.
James Smith – First Team All-Conference, Sportsmanship All-Conference
A force on and off the court,
James Smith has been a standout player for the Scots. Since transferring to Maryville, Smith has taken up residence in the win column in the Singles 1 position with a 12-4 record as well as an 11-5 doubles record with partner
Steven Fitzsimmons. Smith is no stranger to in-season recognition, earning one Player of the Week nod and sharing two Double Team of the Week honors with Fitzsimmons.
Grant Price – First Team All-Conference
Grant Price has played a key role in the Scots success this season, anchoring the Singles 2 spot in his second season for a 16-2 record in regular season matches and earning a Player of the Week recognition in Week 11. His success continued into his doubles play, winning 10 matches on the year alongside three different doubles partners.
McKena Spencer – Second Team All-Conference
McKena Spencer brought the heat in her first season with the Scots. Alongside doubles partner
Calliana Kondolios, Spencer achieved a double-digit match wins record and a Doubles Team of the Week nod, as well as representing the Scots at multiple positions in the singles line-up. Her skill continues to support the Scots in the post season as her and Kondolios's doubles win helped propel the team to a win over the 6th seed Agnes Scott to move on to the quarterfinals.
Clara Plass – Second Team All-Conference, Sportsmanship All-Conference
A team anchor in the Singles 4 spot and a ray of sunshine on and off the court,
Clara Plass has started her college career on a strong note. Establishing herself win a 10-5 winning singles record, Plass conducts herself with grace and respect for the game and her opponents. Along with partner
Maggie Hackney, Plass racked up two points for the Scots in their first post-season game against Agnes Scott with victories in both her doubles and singles matches.
Doug Corbett – Coach of the Year
Head Coach
Doug Corbett has earned his first CCS Coach of the Year honors after guiding the Scots' men's team to an 11-6 overall record and a 4-2 conference record. Corbett has built a culture centered on player development and long-term success, which has led to clinching the No. 3 seed in the 2026 CCS Men's Championship — the Scots highest postseason placement since joining the conference. Corbett became the program's first full-time head coach in 2021 and aims to continue the team's upward trajectory for years to come.
The Scots move on in post-season play, with both the men's and women's teams competing today, Friday, April 24th. The tournament will be hosted at Adams Tennis Complex, with the championship match scheduled for Saturday, April 25, as teams compete for the 2026 CCS title.
