MARYVILLE – A strong doubles performance wasn't enough Friday afternoon as Maryville fell to Roanoke 6-3 in a nonconference matchup here at the MC Tennis Courts.
The Scots took two of three duos matches against the Maroons, but dropped five of six singles contests, falling to 1-12 on the season. Roanoke improved to 9-2 in its 2024 campaign.
James Smith and
Jackson Meyer kicked off the scoring for Maryville, picking up a hard fought 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles. It's the pairs second straight doubles victory, as they improved to 6-9 on the season.
Seth Green and
Ben Wyrick picked up another point for MC in doubles play, downing their opponents on the No. 3 court 8-4 to give Maryville a 2-1 lead heading into singles action.
James Smith picked up the lone singles point for the Scots in the contest, defeating his opponent by scores of 6-2, 6-1. He improved to an even 7-7 on the season with the victory.
The Maroons dominated the rest of the singles matches but both
Seth Green and
Gabriel Villalonga Serra played their matches to a third set. Green fell 7-6, 6-7, 0-1, playing to a tiebreaker in all three sets. Villalonga Serra 5-7, 7-6, 0-1. His match went to a tiebreaker in each of the final two sets.
The Scots are back in action Saturday afternoon for a CCS matchup against Berea. That match is scheduled for a noon start time.
