MARYVILLE – Maryville won its first conference match of the season on Saturday, defeating Berea 8-1 here at the MC Tennis Courts.
The Scots jumped out a strong lead 3-0 lead early, sweeping the doubles matches with ease. On the No. 1 court,
Jackson Meyer and
James Smith picked up their third straight win as a duo, downing their opponent 8-1.
Kaleb Burke and
Jonathan Crane dominated at No. 2 doubles, holding their opponents scoreless with an 8-0 victory.
Seth Green and
Ben Wyrick followed up with an 8-2 victory on the No. 3 court.
Smith picked up the victory at No. 1 singles, downing his opponent 6-3,6-0. This marks his third straight victory, the longest active winning streak on the team. Crane recorded a victory at No. 3, outscoring his opponent 6-0, 6-1.
Green took his match at No. 4 singles by a score of 6-1, 6-2. He improved to a team-best 9-7 overall in singles play with the victory.
Gabriel Villalonga Serra and
Kaleb Burke wrapped up the scoring for MC at No. 5 and 6 singles. They defeated their opponents 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1, respectively.
Maryville is back on the road on Saturday, this time facing off against CCS-foe Huntingdon in Montgomery, Alabama. Start time is scheduled for 3 p.m. Central.
