Scots Take Down Huntingdon 6-3

Maryville Looks to Extend Winning Streak Sunday at LaGrange

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – For the first time this season, Maryville has won back-to-back matches after defeating Huntingdon 6-3 in a hard-fought match on the road.

The Scots (3-12, 2-1 CCS) kicked off the match well with a strong doubles performance, taking two of three to kick off the match.

James Smith and Jackson Meyer opened the scoring for the Scots in the No. 1 spot, winning their fourth straight match as a pair, 8-4. Seth Green and Ben Wyrick continued their success at No. 3, downing their opponent 8-5 for their third straight victory.

In singles play, Smith kept things rolling at No. 1, dropping his opponent 6-1, 6-2, winning his fourth straight and improving to a team-best singles record of 9-7.

Crane picked up the win on the No. 2 court, winning his match in three sets, 0-6, 6-4, 6-2. Meyer recorded the win at No. 3 singles, downing his opponent 3-6, 77-62, 6-2. Burke wrapped up the scoring for MC in the match, picking up a victory by scores 6-3, 4-6, 110-03.

"This was an awesome breakthrough win for our team," head coach Doug Corbett said. "We had the mental toughness to win all 3 of our third set matches, including Jonathan Crane pushing through cramping. These guys have continued to put in the work even though we have come up short a handful of times."

"Those tough lessons paid off for us today and I am really happy for them! We need to get our mind right and be ready for tomorrow to put an exclamation point on today's win."

Maryville is back in action Sunday against LaGrange. First serves are scheduled for noon.
