MARYVILLE – Maryville continued rolling Friday afternoon, winning its fifth straight match after defeating Roanoke in a nailbiter, 5-4 here at the MC Tennis Courts.
The Scots kicked off the match the right way, winning two of three doubles contests to go ahead 2-1 heading into singles play.
After a tough loss on the No. 1 court,
Abby Diggs and
Alyssa Smith got the Scots back on track, winning 8-4 to pick up their eighth straight victory at No. 2 duos.
Mia Brown and
Mandy Webb moved to 4-0 as a pair, taking their match on the No. 3 court 8-2.
Brown also picked up a point for the Scots at No. 3 singles, downing her opponent in a close match 6-2, 7-5. Brown improved to a team-best 10-5 on the season. The first-year student-athlete holds the longest active winning streak on the team, winning her last five solo matches.
Alyssa Smith won her fourth straight match for the Scots, defeating her opponent by the same 6-2, 7-5 score as Brown on the No. 4 court.
Abby Diggs rounded out the scoring for the Scots at No. 5, recording a commanding 6-2, 6-0 victory.
Maryville is back in action Saturday afternoon, looking for its sixth straight victory against CCS-foe Berea at the MC Tennis Courts. The match is scheduled to begin at noon.
