JACKSON, Miss. – Maryville settled for a split of its two-match weekend in Mississippi after Millsaps swept past the Scots 9-0.
Elizabeth Shwaiko won her opening singles set at the No. 2 position and took her match into a third-set tiebreaker before losing that winner-take-all game 10-7. Shwaiko and
Mia Brown also were very competitive at No. 1 doubles before falling 8-6.
The Scots battled hard for the doubles points but couldn't quite gain the momentum. In singles, Shwaiko's first-set victory was the lone singles bright spot for the visitors. The Majors improved to 2-6 on the spring season, while Maryville is now 3-3 overall and 2-2 against the spring slate.
The Scots on Wednesday host Brevard for the spring home opener. Start time is 2 p.m.
