Scots Ready for CCS Tournament

Maryville Faced Top Two Seeds in Final Two Regular Season Matches

5MARYVILLE – Maryville faced off against a tough Covenant squad on the MC Tennis Courts, falling 9-0 here Saturday afternoon.

Despite the loss, MC should be well prepared for the upcoming CCS Championship Tournament on April 25-27, facing off against first-place Piedmont (18-6, 6-0 CCS) and second-place Covenant (11-11, 5-1 CCS) in its final two matches of the regular season.

Maryville finished fourth in the CCS regular season standings with an overall record of 5-14 and a CCS mark of 3-3. That conference record represents a slight improvement over last years 2-4 CCS showing.

Covenant came out strong, taking all three doubles contests and taking an early 3-0 lead heading into singles play. Jonathan Crane and Kaleb Burke put together a solid performance on the No. 2 court, falling to Solomon Crouch and Brock Boehling 8-3.

In solo play, James Smith recorded a stellar performance on the No. 1 court. He battled to a third-set tiebreaker, eventually falling 6-4, 5-7, 05-110.

Jonathan Crane was the other Maryville player to win multiple games, falling to Austin Dreslinski on the No. 2 court 6-3, 6-2.

After two straight weekends of strong competition, Maryville will be looking to make some noise at the CCS Championship Tournament. Competition begins Thursday at the Chattanooga Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
