MARYVILLE – Maryville College President Bryan F. Coker on Friday named Andrew Wu interim athletics director. Wu begins his new role Monday and is serving in the position for the fall semester.

Wu arrives after a six-year tenure as Associate Dean and Athletics Director for Goucher College in Baltimore. Under his leadership, Goucher's NCAA Division III athletics program progressed tremendously and is well-positioned for continued growth. Goucher's student-athlete population grew from 18 percent to more than 30 percent, teams won several Landmark Conference championships, the equestrian team finished as high as 8th nationally, several sports earned their first-ever postseason berths, and this past year, student-athletes were awarded the most All-Conference selections in school history.
Wu's athletic advancement efforts led to increased alumni engagement and philanthropy, and he oversaw the completion of multiple major facility projects. On a national level, Wu has served on the NCAA Diversity and Inclusion Working Group, as a mentor for the Student Immersion Program, and Goucher was honored as one of three recipients across all Divisions for the NCAA Diversity and Inclusion Award.
Wu replaces Sara Quatrocky, who resigned Aug. 1 for personal reasons.
"Please join me in welcoming Andrew Wu to Maryville for the Fall Semester, and in supporting the Athletics Department staff during this transition period," Coker said. "We are grateful for the substantial progress that was made and the strong momentum gained in Athletics during Sara's time with the College.
"As Interim Athletics Director, Andrew will be working both in-person and remotely for the Fall Semester while his wife, Kaitlyn, and two sons, Griffin and James, remain in Maryland. Andrew will work closely with Brittney Washington, Senior Associate Director of Athletics, during the transition period."
All-Region Soccer Student-Athlete, Coach
Before serving as Goucher's Associate Dean and Athletic Director, Wu served as the College's Assistant Dean of Students for five years, overseeing numerous areas of Student Affairs. Prior to Goucher, Wu was employed at Bennington College in Vermont, where he established the institution's first athletics and recreation department. Wu also served as an Assistant Men's Soccer Coach at both Mount St. Mary's University and McDaniel College.
As an undergraduate student-athlete, he was a goalkeeper for McDaniel College, earning All-Centennial Conference and All-Region selections. Wu received his bachelor's degree in philosophy and a Master's in Sport Administration from McDaniel College, an MBA from Mount St. Mary's University, and his Doctor of Education degree from Northeastern University.
"Within the next few weeks, we are launching a comprehensive national search for a permanent Athletic Director," Coker said. "We are seeking an individual who fully embraces the NCAA Division III philosophy of athletics as an integral part of students' overall educational experiences, and who can build upon the positive trajectory that the athletics program has experienced in recent years, including the impending transition to the Southern Athletic Association (SAA)."
