MARYVILLE – Maryville scored first, but it was Bob Jones that walked away with the victory 4-2 Friday afternoon here at the MC Soccer Complex.
For the Scots, it was a duo of Peachtree City, Georgia, natives who provided the scoring.
Craig McIlwraith kicked it off early, scoring the first goal of the match in the 10th minute.
Brady Hammer and
Uli Quinones recorded assists on the goal.
Ben Slay followed up in the 67th minute with a free-kick goal from 22 yards out, blasting a screamer off the right post and into the back of the net.
The pair of McIntosh High School alumni combined for six shots (three each), which accounted for just under half of Maryville's total for the game (14).
The Bruins scored three goals in the first half and carried a 3-1 lead into the break. After Slay scored in the 67th minute, Bob Jones' forward Mario Figueroa put the Bruins back ahead by two just five minutes later in the 72nd minute of play.
Figueroa led the Bruins offensively, scoring two goals of his own and recording an assist.
Maryville goalkeeper
Tanner Ricks made four saves in his second start in a Scots uniform. The first-year keeper started his first game against Berea in the second match of the season but played just the first 45 minutes. In Friday's match, he played his first complete game in goal.
