Maryville Tops Roanoke 2-1

Corley Leads Scots With a Goal and an Assist in the Contest

MARYVILLE – Roanoke got on the board first, But the Maryville offense came alive in the second half as the Scots secured a 2-1 Victory here at the MC Soccer Complex Sunday afternoon.
 
With the win, Maryville improved to 2-1-3 on the season, while Roanoke fell to 0-4-2.
 
After a scoreless first half of play, The Maroons recorded the first goal of match in the 57th minute taking a 1-0 lead a penalty kick goal from Brooke Nicholson.
 
Roanoke's lead didn't last long though, as Maryville tied it up in the 68th minute on a goal from Madison McDonald, her second of the season. Katie Corley was credited with the assist on the play, after sending the long ball down the field to set up McDonalds eight-yard strike.

The Scots took the lead just five minutes later in the 73rd minute. Corley scored the game winning goal, receiving a corner kick from Hannah Smoot and firing the ball into the back of the net following a scramble inside the box. Smoot recorded an assist on the play.
 
Once again this season, the Maryville defense held strong. The Maroons outshot the Scots 18-11, including a 12-5 deficit in the second half. Of those 18 shots, just two were on goal, including the penalty kick goal.
 
Smoot led MC with four shots, followed by Corley with three and McDonald with two. Sierra Lee and Avery Brown rounded out the Scots shooters with one apiece. Sydney Mahr finished the game with one save in two opportunities.  
 
Maryville is back in action at the MC Soccer Complex Friday, for a match against Transylvania. Kick off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
