Corley's Brace Elevates Scots Over Transy

Corley Leads Scots to Victory over Pioneers

MARYVILLE – Katie Corley had a big night for Maryville on Friday, recording a brace to lead the Scots to a convincing 3-1 victory over Transylvania here at the MC Soccer Complex.

Corley played just 38 minutes off the bench in the match but made the most of her opportunities on the field. She recorded goals in the 28th and 68th minutes of the contest.

For the sophomore, Friday's performance marked the second multi-goal game of her career, and her first since she recorded a hat trick against Wesleyan on October 5, 2023, her debut season.

She has now scored in two straight games, also recording a goal in Sunday's win over Roanoke. This is the first time in her career that she has scored in back-to-back matches.

Her first goal of the night, in the 28th minute, was assisted by Ellie Schuld and Sierra Lee. From the right side of the field, Lee centered the ball to Schuld, who redirected it directly to Corley. While the Melbourne, Florida native was caught off guard by the pass, she still managed to shoulder the ball into the back of the net for her third score of the season.

She found the back of the net again in the second half, this time on assists from Madison McDonald and Maya Baggett.

McDonald kicked off the impressive play with a high arching go-ball down the right flank to Baggett. Baggett quickly played the ball to Corley inside the box, who jumped in the air, and connected on a one-timer from five yards out.

Maryville also scored in the 50th minute, when Delaney Muldoon centered a ball that went directly off the Transy Defender's foot, over the goalkeeper, and into the net.

The Pioneers (1-4-1) wouldn't go down without a fight, scoring their first and only goal in the 74th minute. Lilia Steen was credited with the goal, her first of the season.

MC outshot Transylvania 18-7, including a 9-2 deficit in shots on goal. The Scots also held the advantage in corner kick opportunities by a margin of 6-1.

Delaney Muldoon

Sierra Lee led the way with four shots, followed by McDonald with three. Corley, Smoot and Muldoon recorded two shots each to round out the Scots who attempted multiple shots in the contest.

For Maryville, Caelin Cole was the only non-goalkeeper to play all 90 minutes. The senior defender was a strong defensive anchor for MC throughout the match.

The Scots are 3-0-1 in their last four matches and improved to 3-1-3 overall this season with the victory.

Maryville is back in action Monday, taking on future SAA opponent Berry on the road in Rome, Georgia. Kick off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
