Colonels March Past Scots 1-0

Centre Scores Late to Push Past MC

MARYVILLE – Maryville's late match woes continued Sunday afternoon as the Scots fell to Centre 1-0 here at the MC Soccer Complex.

The Scots (2-5-2) and Colonels (7-1-1) played 81 minutes of scoreless soccer on Sunday before Centre's Drew Davidson broke the stalemate with an 82nd-minute goal to take the lead.

Over MC's last two matches, it has held its opponents to zero goals in the first half but has been outscored 4-0 in the final 45 minutes of play, with the 1-0 loss Sunday and a 3-0 loss to Oglethorpe on Friday.

Maryville goalkeeper Alon Biger made his first collegiate start, recording seven saves, the most by an individual Scots goalie this season.

Centre recorded a slim advantage in the shot margin for the contest, outshooting the Scots 18-16 (8-5 on goal). The colonels had the upper hand in corner kicks as well, recording 10 opportunities to the Scots five.

Brooklyn Muccillo led the Scots with five shots (two on goal) while Craig McIlwraith, Collin Combs, Marques Powers, and Ethan Denney each recorded two attempts.

Maryville returns to action Tuesday, looking to right the ship on the road with a trip to North Carolina to face off against Greensboro. Kick off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
