Scots Drop Close Call to Centre

Lee Scores Early but Colonels Rally

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Sierra Lee found the net in the fourth minute, but Centre scored a goal in each half to topple Maryville 2-1 Friday at the Covenant Women's Soccer Classic.

Lee's goal was her second of the early season and came unassisted. The Gallatin senior now has 33 goals in 66 career matches played.

Hannah Smoot was the Maryville shots leader with five, followed by Lee with a pair. Maryville attempted nine shots to Centre's 18, but the Scots had a 54 percent to 46 percent advantage in ball possession.

The Colonels tied the score in the 36th minute when Lydia Bowling converted a penalty kick. It was 1-1 at halftime. Centre tallied the game-winner in the 80th minute when Olivia Bretz converted after an assist by Josie Bencic. It was the first goal of the season for Bretz.

Sydney Mahr went the distance in goal for Maryville and made three saves.

Centre improved to 1-1-1, while Maryville is now 0-1-2. These two programs become conference foes in fall 2026 when the Scots join the Southern Athletic Association.

The Scots play again Saturday against Bob Jones, which lost 3-1 Friday to host Covenant. The Bruins are 2-1-0 on the young season. Start time from Lookout Mountain is 2:30 p.m.
