Maryville Rallies Past Asbury with Second-Half Surge

MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- The Maryville men's soccer team erupted for three second-half goals to secure a 3-1 comeback victory over Asbury University on Wednesday night at the MC Soccer Complex.

After trailing 1-0 midway through the second half, the Scots responded in Maryville fashion, using goals from Ben Brophy, Ethan Denney, and Brady Hammer to earn their second conference win and move to 6-3-5 (2-1-1) on the season. 

Asbury opened the scoring in the 58th minute, capitalizing on a loose ball to give the Eagles a brief 1-0 advantage. The lead wouldn't last long, as Maryville's attack found its rhythm moments later.

In teh 64th minute, Brophy equalized of a well-worked sequence that featured assists from Landon Yurisic and Hammer, trying the match at 1-1. Just five minutes later, Denney finished a feed off of Hammer to give the Scots their first lead of the night.

With Asbury reduced to 10 men following a 75th minute red card, Maryville capitalized on the differential. Hammer put the match out of reach in the 82nd minute with a goal of his own, sealing the 3-1 victory. 

The Scots dominated statistically, outshooting Asbury 17-6, including a 12-3 edge in the second half. Maryville goalkeeper, Alon Biger, recorded two saves in goal for Maryville.

Hammer led the offensive change with a goal and two assists, while Brophy and Denney each added tallies to continue Maryville's balanced scoring attack.

Maryville is looking to carry this winning momentum forward as they take on the Covenant Scots in Lookout Mountain, Georgia on October 22nd at 7:00 PM.
