Women's Soccer Rolls into First Place after Defeating LaGrange 4-0

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Maryville College women's soccer dominated from start to finish on Saturday afternoon, defeating LaGrange 4–0 at the MC Soccer Complex to seize sole possession of first place in the Collegiate Conference of the South.

The Scots poured on the pressure early, outshooting LaGrange 13–1 in the opening half before breaking through in the 43rd minute. Freshman Katie Cotten opened the scoring with a strike inside the box, giving Maryville a 1–0 lead heading into the break.

Maryville continued to control possession in the second half, and the offense came alive. Anabelle Procter doubled the advantage in the 59th minute, then assisted Katie Corley just three minutes later to make it 3–0. Senior forward Hannah Smoot capped the scoring in the 80th minute with her third goal of the season.

The Scots' defense was rock solid, limiting LaGrange to just two shots on the day. Goalkeeper Kristen Burns earned her third shutout of the year, needing just one save behind a composed Maryville back line anchored by Elle Fair, Katie Ray, and Gabbie Halliburton.

Maryville outshot LaGrange 27–2 overall and held a 7–2 edge in corner kicks.

With the win — and a tie between Belhaven and Asbury elsewhere in the league — the Scots (8–6, 6–1 CCS) now sit alone atop the CCS standings. The result positions Maryville to host throughout the upcoming CCS Conference Tournament, marking a major step toward postseason success.

Maryville closes the regular season next week with trips to #1 ranked Emory, then to Wesleyan, looking to maintain its momentum and secure home-field advantage for the duration of the tournament.
