Game One
MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Maryville College Scots had a dominant win against the LaGrange Panthers on a special senior day. This win increases Maryville's record to 17-6 overall and 8-2 in the conference, and it drops LaGrange to 8-16 overall and 6-4 in the conference.
Maryville's
Ruby Walton started set one with a kill, but LaGrange was quick to follow with one of their own. Both teams were defending well, and neither team was able to pull ahead until two kills from Walton gave Maryville the lead, 10-8. Once again, the teams went back and forth, and Maryville did not fall far behind thanks to
Kylie Wilhelmi,
Ava George Wilber,
Kiana Kent, and Walton. Just when Maryville thought they were going to win the set, a Scots attack error tied the game up, 24-24. Working hard,
Cailin Mastropasqua and Wilhelmi were able to piece two kills together, taking set one from the Panthers, 27-25.
LaGrange kicked off set two with a kill, but Mastropasqua and Walton worked together to pull ahead, 3-1. Maryville was finally able to pull ahead and go on a 6-1 scoring run, featuring kills from
Audry Neil, Mastropasqua, and Kent, granting Maryville an early lead, 15-10. Despite the effort, the Panthers were not able to initiate any rallies, and Maryville was able to go on another run, this time with kills from
Dakota Vaiese and Neil, as well as a service ace from Wilhelmi. A LaGrange bad set and attack error ended the set, and Maryville captured set two, 25-15.
Walton started set three in the same fashion as set one, but LaGrange did not let Maryville hold the lead for long. Both team was pushing back and forth until a kill from Walton and Wilhelmi, as well as a service ace from
Megan Fairburn gave Maryville the lead, 14-9. Although they fought, the Panthers were not able to pull ahead, and a final kill from Wilhelmi ended set three, 25-23.
Game Two
MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Maryville College Scots swept on their senior day in their match against the Agnes Scott Scotties. This win improves Maryville's record to 18-6 overall and 9-2 in the conference, and it drops Agnes Scott to 0-13 overall and 0-11 in the conference.
Maryville quickly gets their jitters out with an attack error and bad set, falling behind early on, 2-1. The Scots soon locked onto their targets and went on a 11-point scoring drive, featuring kills from Mastropasqua, Walton, and Neil, as well as three service aces from
Hannah Scully. A Maryville attack error ended their run, but Mastropasqua restarted the run with a kill, as well as
Megan Fairburn with three service aces. With the score set to 18-3, the Scotties had their first kill of the set, only for it to be followed by kills from Walton, Wilhelmi, and Kent. Maryville took set one, 25-4.
Wilhelmi started set two with a kill, followed by kills from
Izzy Freeman and Neil, as well as two service aces from
Leeann Maysonet Robles. The Scotties did not let Maryville take the lead as easily this set, and Agnes Scott was able to piece some points together, only trailing by five. After Agnes Scots' point marker of 12-7, Maryville went on a 14-2 run, filled with kills from Mastropasqua, Walton, Wilhelmi, Kent, and
Halie Rosasco, as well as service aces from Walton, Mastropasqua, and Rosasco. Maryville won set two, 25-9.
Maryville started set three with a kill from Wilhelmi, and Agnes Scott responded with their own. After a Maryville attack error, the Scots went on a 13-point run, highlighted with kills from Walton and Kent, and three aces from Maysonet Robles. Maryville broke up their scoring run with an attack error and service error of their own, but a fatal attack error by the Scotties sealed the fate of Agnes Scots, granting Maryville the win, 25-7.
Maryville is back in action Saturday, October 25
th at 12:00 PM in Macon, Georgia to take on the Wesleyan Wolves.
