SEWANEE, Tenn. - In their first-ever SAA game, the Maryville College Scots made a statement on the road, cruising to a 40–7 victory over Sewanee on a sunny Saturday afternoon at McGee Field.
From the opening drive, the Scots looked every bit ready for their new conference stage. Senior running back Jermaine Abner capped an 80-yard opening march with a six-yard touchdown, setting the tone for a balanced and explosive offensive day. Moments later, Chris Cooper broke free for a 49-yard score, and Maryville never looked back. Cooper led the ground game with 98 yards and two touchdowns, averaging nearly nine yards per carry.
Quarterback Bryson Rollins kept the pressure on Sewanee's defense, throwing for 295 yards and three touchdowns. His connection with Erozinis Edmondson, who hauled in a 68-yard bomb early in the third quarter, helped put the game out of reach. Rollins also found Alex Wein and Steph Carter Jr. for scores, orchestrating a 563-yard offensive performance that showcased both tempo and precision.
Defensively, Maryville was just as dominant. The Scots' front sacked Sewanee quarterbacks three times and forced two interceptions, with Jacquese Abner and Caden Walker each snagging a pick. Despite Sewanee's standout effort from running back Barton Mixon (137 yards, 1 TD), the Tigers found little room to maneuver against a disciplined Scots defense.
With the win, Maryville improves to 4–0 overall and 1–0 in SAA play, marking a triumphant debut in their new conference. The Scots will return home next week for their Homecoming matchup with rival Centre, riding momentum and having proven they're more than ready to contend in their new league.
