Scots Conference Winstreak Cut Short in CCS Matchup

JACKSON, Miss. – Maryville men's soccer battled throughout but came up short in a 4-1 setback to Belhaven on Saturday afternoon at Belhaven Bowl Stadium.

The Scots (5-3-4, 1-1 CCS) found themselves down a goal at the break after the Blazers struck in the 33rd minute. Maryville goalkeeper Christian Alcaraz kept his side close with five first-half saves, part of a seven-stop afternoon, but Belhaven's pressure continued into the second half.

The Blazers doubled their lead just after halftime, but Maryville answered quickly when Brady Hammer buried a penalty kick in the 48th minute to make it 2-1. Hammer led the Scots' attack with five shots, including two on frame, while Jonathan Case nearly cut the margin further with an 86th-minute effort that struck the woodwork.

Belhaven, however, regained momentum with two goals less than two minutes apart midway through the half to put the match out of reach. Despite the scoreline, the Scots continued to push forward, outshooting Belhaven 5-7 in the second period and creating multiple late chances.

Men's soccer is back in action Friday, October 10th when they take on the LaGrange Panthers at 7:00 PM.
