Volleyball Wraps Up Regular Season with Victory over Mississippi University for Women

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Maryville women's volleyball ended their regular season with a 3-2 victory over Mississippi University for Women on Saturday afternoon. This victory improves Maryville to 23-7, 13-2 and drops MUW to 10-19, 7-7.

MUW started set one, and Maryville quickly responded with points of their own. Each team went back-and-forth in scoring until the Scots went on a five-point run, featuring a kill from Wilhelmi. The Owls responded with a five-point run of their own to regain the lead, 18-15. The Scots powered through and scored 6-1 points, highlighted by Audry Neil, Ruby Walton, Katelyn Eldred, Cailin Mastropasqua, and Wilhelmi. After a few more MUW points, a final kill from Wilhelmi ended set one in favor of the Scots, 25-23.

MUW kicked off set two, and each team went on numerous runs before the set was completed. Mastropasqua, Walton, Eldred, and Megan Fairburn were seen during Maryville's scoring, but the Scots could not pull away before the Owls ended set two, 25-23.

The Owls began set one before the Scots went on a short run with kills from Walton and Wilhelmi, as well as a Walton service ace. MUW fought back with a 7-3 scoring run, and Maryville began to catch up after multiple Owl errors. Maryville recaptured the lead with kills from Walton and Izzy Freeman, but MUW quickly reclaimed the lead, 16-14. Maryville fought hard to climb back to the top, but the Owls took set three, 26-24.

MUW initiated scoring in set one, but Maryville retaliated with a kill to tie the score, 2-2. The Scots went on a 6-2 run, led by Mastropasqua, Wilhelmi, and Maddie Bouvier to extend Maryville's lead, 15-10. Owl error continued to extend Maryville's lead, and a final 6-2 run from Wilhelmi, Walton, and Mastropasqua ended set four, 25-18. 

Maryville started set five with a 6-1 scoring run with two kills from Wilhelmi and a service ace from Bouvier. MUW responded with a short run of their own, cutting into Maryville's lead, 7-4. The Scots went on another 6-1 run, led by Wilhelmi, Walton, Dakota Vaiese, and Audry Neil. The Owls pieced points together to lessen the gap at 14-12, but Maryville's Mastropasqua ended the match with a kill.

The Scots are back in action Tuesday, November 11th to take on the winner of the Covenant vs. Belhaven match.
