Women's Basketball Wraps up their Time at the Nelson Hinson Invitational with a Dominant Win over York

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Maryville College women's basketball team put together an impressive performance on Saturday afternoon, defeating York (Pa.) 70–43 in a non-conference matchup inside the Freeman Center.

The Scots improved to 4-4 on the season with the victory, while the Spartans dropped to 2-8 overall.

Maryville was led by a balanced offensive effort, highlighted by Emily Wilson and Leighan Jackson, who each scored a team-high 16 points. Wilson knocked down three shots from beyond the arc and added three assists, while Jackson was nearly perfect from the floor, finishing 6-of-7 shooting and a flawless 4-for-4 from the free-throw line while pulling down five rebounds. Ella Haney also reached double figures with 11 points, adding four steals on the defensive end.

The Scots shot 39.7 percent from the field and 32.0 percent from three-point range, while holding a decisive advantage on the glass with 45 rebounds. Maryville also forced 28 York turnovers, converting them into 34 points, and received 34 points from its bench unit.

Maryville set the tone early, opening the game on an 18–7 first-quarter run and limiting York to just three made field goals in the period. The Scots continued to build momentum in the second quarter, shooting 47.1 percent from the field and stretching the lead to 39–14 at halftime.

The Scots maintained control coming out of the break, outscoring York 18–10 in the third quarter behind strong transition play and interior scoring. Maryville's defensive pressure remained consistent, holding the Spartans to 32.1 percent shooting for the game.

York found some offensive rhythm in the fourth quarter, but Maryville answered with steady scoring from its reserves to close out the 70–43 victory.
