Maryville Falls at Asbury

Conference Leader Asbury Gets 12th Straight Win

WILMORE, Ky - The Scots fell late to the top team in the CCS standings after trailing by only four heading into the final quarter. Maryville eventually fell 63-52 to Asbury, who has now won 12 games in a row after losing their first conference game against Piedmont early in the season.

The Scots and the Eagles were virtually tied throughout the first three quarters, with neither team taking a lead bigger than a nine point lead (Asbury) through the first three frames. Asbury's nine point lead came in the second quarter, and was erased by Maryville late in that quarter and early into the third. Maryville's largest lead of the game came in the first quarter when they led by three. The Scots did manage a one point lead early in the third quarter, but couldn't maintain that advantage.

Maryville was held to single-digit scoring in the fourth quarter, which paved the way for Asbury to pull away and secure their victory.

Ella Haney

Ella Haney was the top scorer for MC on the night, putting up 15 points on 3-6 shooting from behind the three point line, and adding five rebounds as well. Senior Forward Emma Huskey surpassed 500 career rebounds with her nine rebound performance against the Eagles. She also tallied seven points and three assists. Halle Kitchen was a top performer on defense, swiping five steals and three defensive rebounds while also contributing nine points on the offensive side. Another notable line was Kadence Stoner's seven rebounds, which she now has over 100 rebounds on the season, joining Emma Huskey as the only two on the team with that amount.

Emma Huskey

The biggest difference in the game came from Maryville's 27 turnovers. Asbury was able to capitalize on those by scoring 27 points off turnovers, compared to the Scot's 8. The Eagles swiped 18 steals to increase that turnover margin for MC.

Maryville falls to 8-5 in conference play and 9-13 overall on the season. Asbury improves to 12-1 in the CCS and 15-7 overall. The Scots return home this weekend to host Agnus Scott (1-10, 2-18) for senior day. They will then head on the road for the final two regular season games at Covenant and Belhaven to determine their standing for the CCS Tournament.
