First game jitters never arrived for the Scots as the defending CCS Champions blew past Fontbonne 15-1 in 7-inning run-ruled game one of a doubleheader with the Griffins. Game two went the full nine but threatened to be more of the same as the Scots took a first-inning 6-0 lead and eventually won 9-1.
"It was a great day, opening day. I always say this, but it should be a national holiday, so just that in itself is exciting"Â CoachÂ
Clint Helton Said,Â
"You know, you work, and you prepare all off-season for opening day and I feel like our guys stuck to the plan. They stayed disciplined so I was proud of how we did that.

Despite being outscored in the second half by four, the Scots earned a decisive 59-36 victory on senior day.
A plus 23-point scoring margin in the second quarter was the separating factor as the Scots outscored the Scotties 26-3 in the period. The three points allowed in that quarter were the fewest for The Scots since allowing only 2 points, also against Agnes Scott, on Jan. 7, 2022.
Covenant comes into the game at 5-8 in CCS play, tied for sixth place and are on a five-game skid.Â

Maryville head coach Raul Placeres could not have asked his Scots for a better start to a road conference test last week. Maryville broke quickly from the gate and never allowed Asbury back into the game in an 89-70 triumph in Kentucky. Holding the Scots steady throughout was the stalwart, Reed Kemp. The senior guard scored 30 points on 10-of-20 shooting from the field. He was 3-of-7 from long range and 7-of-8 from the line to climb to 566 points for the season. That is the seventh-best total in program history, and Kemp now trails first-place Dan McKinstry (1971-72) by 79 points.
 Â
Kemp has scored 20 or more points in 20 games this season, including the last 13 in a row. He has reached 30 points five times, including four of his last six contests. Maryville enters the game at 18-5 overall and 9-1 in the CCS, while Covenant sits in fourth place in the CCS standings with a 3-6 conference record. Most recently they fell to Huntingdon 129-94 in Alabama.
