Blazers' Late Surge Puts Belhaven Over Maryville

Belhaven Outscores Maryville 21-5 Over Last 5:29 of Game

JACKSON, Miss. – A streaky game favored Maryville until the final period as the Scots fell to Belhaven in Jackson. 

In a game of runs, the Belhaven Blazers had the last one that proved to be fatal for the Scots. Scoring just seven points in the fourth quarter, the Blazers outpaced Maryville 21-5 over the last 5:29 of the game to put the contest out of reach, winning the game 70-61.
 
The first half started much the same way the game ended, with Belhaven going on a 10-2 run and outscoring the Scots 18-9 in the first quarter. Maryville was able to counter the Blazers' run with a 17-5 run of their own in the second period to lead Belhaven 34-30 at the half.
 
Ella Haney led all scorers at the break with 12 points after shooting 2/2 from behind the arc. The Scots had one of their best three-point shooting outings of the season, making five treys, four of which came in the first half on 4-6 shooting.

A competitive third quarter saw Maryville come out with a seven-point lead heading into the final period. The Scots could not find their rhythm, however. Belhaven outscored MC by 16 in the quarter, with Maryville scoring just seven points and turning the ball over seven times. Belhaven finished the game on a 21-5 run over the last 5:29 of the game to put it out of reach.
 
The seven-point fourth quarter continued a trend of lowly last periods for the Scots, who have averaged just nine points combined with 5.75 turnovers per fourth quarter in their last four games.

Ella Tharpe finished the game 6-8 from the floor with 12 points. Emma Huskey pulled down eight rebounds along with three assists and three points. Kadence Stoner had seven boards and three points, and Emily Allen had eight points.
 
Maryville Closes out the 2024-25 regular season at 11-14 overall and 10-6 in conference play, tying last year's conference record. The Scots finish in fourth place in the CCS and will host a home quarterfinal match-up against the #5 seed (Either LaGrange or Huntingdon) Tuesday at 5 p.m.
