MARYVILLE – Maryville displayed depth up and down the lineup Sunday in a 6-1 victory over Indiana-Southeast.
The Scots swept all three doubles matches to gather the 1-0 lead.
Eli Cauthorn and
Jonathan Crane breezed to a 6-1 victory at the No. 3 position, followed by
James Smith and
Luka Romano claiming a 6-3 decision at No. 2. Things were more of a challenge at the top spot, but
Jackson Meyer and
Field Myatt prevailed 7-5 to send the Scots into singles with a ton of momentum.
And that carried over from the start.
Myatt rolled to a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 2 to keep the Scots rolling. After Indiana-Southeast grabbed one point back at No. 3 singles, Smith won his No. 1 match 6-3, 6-2 for a 3-1 Maryville lead.
Gabriel Villalonga Serra prevailed 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 singles to clinch the victory for Maryville, and then Crane won 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) at the No. 4 position. Cauthorn capped the proceedings with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 victory at No. 6.
Maryville takes to the road later this week, playing three matches in Virginia. The Scots are at Bridgewater on Thursday, Roanoke on Friday and Southern Virginia on Saturday.
