ATLANTA – Maryville suffered another tough day of softball at the Emory Classic.
Host Emory defeated the Scots 8-0 in five innings, and then LaGrange posted a 6-1 decision on its conference rival in games that will not count toward the conference standings.
Emory scored five runs in the first and three more in the third.
Campbell White in the top of the third inning managed the only Maryville base hit, a one-out single to center.
The host Eagles (4-0) outhit Maryville 7-1.
In Game 2, LaGrange junior pitcher Claire Chamberlain pitched a four-hitter and drove in three runs. LaGrange scored twice in the first, third and fifth innings.
Maryville's only run came in the bottom of the first when
Brecca Williams and
Paige Dickinson singled with one out and
Olivia Harris drove Williams in with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Williams finished 2-for-3 to increase her season batting average to .556. First-year infielder
Jada Harris delivered a pinch hit in the seventh inning for her first collegiate base knock and Maryville's fourth hit of the game. LaGrange reached Scots pitching for nine hits.
Maryville is home next weekend for the Maryville College Classic, welcoming Rhodes and Roanoke for tripleheaders both Saturday and Sunday. Here's the schedule:
