Box Score 2 MARYVILLE – The close ones are not going Maryville's way right now after the Scots fell 12-10 to Rhodes and 4-2 to Roanoke on Saturday. It was Day 1 of the weekend Maryville College Classic.
In the nightcap, Maryville battled into a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning when
Brecca Williams delivered an RBI-single to tie the game. Williams then was part of a double-steal with
Ashtyn Barga that helped Barga race home with the go-ahead run.
Roanoke answered with two runs in the sixth and one run in the seventh, then survived a bases-loaded situation by Maryville in the bottom of the seventh. The Scots put Barga, Williams and
Paige Dickinson aboard all on singles but could not find the run-scoring hits to complete the rally.
Sydney Dickinson (0-3) was the tough-luck loser, allowing four runs on six hits over her seven-inning, complete-game effort. Dickinson struck out three.
In Saturday's earlier game, Rhodes rallied for a 12-10 victory over the Scots. Because of a crowded Maryville Athletics home calendar on Saturday, game statistics from the Maryville-Rhodes contest have not been finalized.
Maryville drops to 1-7, with Rhodes now 3-7 and Roanoke 2-2.
Day 2 of the Maryville College Classic is Sunday, with the same three teams all playing twice. Maryville takes on Roanoke at 11 a.m., followed by Roanoke against Rhodes at 1:30. The Scots then face Rhodes in a 4 p.m. finale of future Southern Athletic Association foes.
