The Scots used wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 positions to take the doubles point. First-years Luka Romano and Eli Cauthorn at No. 2 blanked their Bridgewater opponents 6-0, while Jonathan Crane and Kaleb Burke took care of things at No. 3 with a 6-4 triumph. Field Myatt and Jackson Meyer almost made it a sweep in doubles before falling 7-6 (8-6).

In singles, the Scots suffered a couple of early losses at Nos. 2 and 3 before storming back. Myatt tied the match 2-2 with a three-set triumph at No. 1 singles, winning 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (13-11). And the bottom of Maryville's deep lineup took over from there.

Crane rolled at No. 4 singles by a 6-1, 6-1 count, and Gabriel Villalonga Serra followed with a 6-0, 6-4 triumph. Ian Martin then prevailed in three sets 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4) for the final 5-2 score line.

Maryville returns to the courts today at Roanoke in a 2 p.m. start. The Scots conclude their weekend swing with a Saturday morning match at Southern Virginia.

Maryville realized its season-long Drive for Five, forcing a tiebreaker decision from the Collegiate Conference of the South after going into Belhaven's gym Friday night and producing a hard-fought 77-72 victory. Belhaven on its way to 11-0 in league play had knocked off the Scots 91-83 in Maryville on Jan. 25.

Maryville with the victory pockets a fifth consecutive regular season conference championship – the Drive for Five. The Scots reach 20 wins for the second straight year and the third time in four seasons since Covid. And MC finishes 11-1 in conference play and improves to 32-4 in three regular seasons against the CCS, 36-4 counting the postseason.

Asbury defeated Covenant Wednesday afternoon in the tournament quarterfinals to advance to face #1 seed Maryville. The Eagles' game against Covenant, originally starting Tuesday night, was delayed in the first half due to a city-wide power outage in Wilmore, resulting in the game being pushed to restart Wednesday morning. Asbury comes in to the game having won two in-a-row, both against Covenant. The Scots defeated the Eagles both times they played in the regular season, with Maryville winning at home 100-61 and at Asbury 89-70.

The winner will advance to the CCS Championship game Saturday at 3 p.m. against the winner of Belhaven and Huntingdon, which takes place today at 5 p.m., also in Cooper.
