Maryville Wraps Virginia Swing with 4-3 Defeat to SVU Knights

BUENA VISTA, Va. – Maryville's two-game Virginia winning streak came to a halt in a narrow 4-3 defeat Saturday at Southern Virginia.

Maryville won singles matches at the Nos. 1, 3 and 5 position. James Smith prevailed at No. 1 by a 6-4, 6-4 score line, improving to 3-0 in dual matches this season. Luka Romano rolled at the No. 3 position thanks to 6-1 and 6-2 set wins. And at No. 5, Jackson Meyer needed a third-set tiebreaker, but he pulled through 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

The Scots dropped the doubles point 3-0, although two matches were tight. Smith and Field Myatt fell 7-5 at No. 1 doubles, and Meyer and Jonathan Crane went down 7-6 (7-5) at the No. 2 slot.

Myatt also lost in a third set 0-6, 7-5, 6-2 or this match could have flipped the other way.
