DECATUR, Ga. – A 10-run first inning in Game 2 sparked a doubleheader sweep for Maryville against Agnes Scott in a Collegiate Conference of the South matchup. The Scots won 13-5 in six innings and 12-2 in five innings, both games shortened by the run rule.
The Scots sent 16 batters to the plate in the top of that first inning, scoring 10 times on seven hits.
Emma Blankenship and
Jessica Harris had two-run singles and
Paige Dickinson a two-RBI triple to highlight the frame.
Harris went a season-best 4-for-4 in Game 2, scoring two runs and driving in two. She raised her season batting average to .316, the best since February. And Sidney Dickinson belted her first collegiate home run leading off the second inning. The first-year Scot finished the game 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Brecca Williams was 3-for-4 in the nightcap and 5-for-9 for the doubleheader, scoring four runs. She leads the team with 48 hits and 24 runs.
Ashtyn Barga also had a big day, going 3-for-4 in Game 1 and 2-for-4 in the nightcap to finish 5-for-8 with three runs scored. Barga's big day lifted her batting average to a season-best .309.
In Game 1, Maryville scored five runs in the second and combined for seven more runs over the final three innings. The Scots belted a
season-high 16 hits.
Maples Career-High 4 RBIs
Ryleigh Maples was a Game 1 headliner, going 3-for-3 with a career-high four RBIs. Included was her first triple of the season and second for her career.
Olivia Harris went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two batted in, while
Paige Dickinson was 2-for-3 for the first game and 3-for-5 for the doubleheader. She drove in a combined four runs.
Paige Dickinson (2-3) also earned the pitching win in Game 1, hurling three shutout innings in relief and allowing just one hit and one walk with one strikeout. She added another inning in the nightcap and limited the Scotties to one unearned run.
Jacey Goetzinger (3-2) pitched four innings in the second game for the victory, allowing one run on two hits and lowering her ERA to 2.58.
Maryville with the twin wins improved to 11-15 overall and 3-3 in the CCS. Sunday's scheduled doubleheader at Wesleyan is postponed by expected wet grounds. No makeup date has been released.
The Scots are riding a season-high four-game winning streak and play again Friday against LaGrange in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
