Maryville Drops Pair at Greensboro

Returning to Play Six Home Games This Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Maryville wrapped up its North Carolina road trip by losing both ends of a doubleheader here Sunday, falling 7-3 and 11-7 to a solid Greensboro team.

The Scots scored single runs in the top of the first inning of both games, and both times Greensboro rallied for a four-spot in its half of the first to put Maryville on the back foot.

In Game 1, Maryville fell behind 7-1 before scoring twice in the fifth. One of those runs came home on a Tate Romero RBI-single, while Maryville's other two runs in the game scored on wild pitches.

In the nightcap, the Scots after that 4-1 deficit bounced right back in the second on Paige Dickinson's two-run single. But Greensboro responded with seven runs in the second to push the score to 11-3. Maryville extended the game with a run in the fourth on a Brecca Williams RBI-base hit before the Scots scored three times in the seventh to narrow the final margin.

In Game 1, Maryville's Tia Stewart came on in relief and allowed three runs while striking out five over the final six innings. In Game 2, Dickinson came on in relief and pitched 4 and 2-3 innings of shutout ball. She allowed just one hit and struck out four without walking a batter.
