Tennis Season Preview

Scots Programs Renewed and Ready to go

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Scots tennis programs are renewed and ready to go for the 2025-26 school year. Both the men's tennis and women's tennis programs have key additions to their respective teams, and entering his 5th year as head coach, Doug Corbett is ready to kick things off.

"I've been excited about the talent of these incoming freshmen, but I've also been excited about the work ethic of the group as well." Corbett said, regarding the women's team. "I think that the talent is there to have a great year."

The women's team has rebuilt over the loss of three key seniors last year with the additions of Maggie Hackney, Clara Plass, Kaitlyn Redwine, and McKena Spencer (all '29). The rest of the team is composed of key returners Calliana Kondolios ('28), Jasmine Muecke ('28), and Josie McRae ('27).

"Having those upperclassmen is critical, otherwise we'd be the youngest possible team. I'm excited about each player on our roster and their ability to contribute to a strong season." Corbett said.

On the men's side, the team brings a lot of veteran presence to help guide the incoming freshman class. Jonathan Crane, Jackson Meyer, James Smith, and Gabriel Villalonga Serra (all '26) are ready to give it one last ride. Other returners include Ian Martin, Field Myatt (both '27), Eli Cauthorn, Pedro Cunha, and Luka Romano (those three are '28). Newcomers include Sergio Balsamo, Steven Fitzsimmons, and Eric Vornhagen (all '29).

"We have fiery personalities, leaders, and competitors across the board. The newcomers help fill the gaps that we needed to work on last year, while the veterans have been instrumental in rebuilding the program and helping our team culture." Corbett said. "For years we've been trying to build to win a championship in the CCS, and for the first time, our goal is to win it this year."

The men's tennis team debuts at home against Johnson University on September 17th. The women's team kicks off on September 28th at an invitational hosted by Pfeiffer University.
