MARYVILLE, Tenn. - With a strong core of veterans set to take the field, Maryville College football enters the 2025 season with experience and unfinished business. The Scots return a roster stacked with playmakers on both side of the ball, each bringing the skill, chemistry, and grit that fueled last year's successes. Now stepping into the highly competitive Southern Athletic Association (SAA), the foundation built by the returning core will be crucial in proving the Scots are ready to make their mark in their new league.
Â
Coach Fox is welcoming back 10 returning starters for the 2025 seasons, including defensive anchors
Grant Henderson and
Jacob Berven, and eight offensive leaders, comprised of
Steph Carter Jr.,
Bryson Claiborne,
Erozinis Edmondson,
Bryson Rollins,
Jaden Marlin,
Levi Stowers,
Cam Robinson, and
Owen Sacks.
Â
Leading the charge for the Scots is senior quarterback
Bryson Rollins. Starting all 11 games, the Elizabethton native tallied 2,964 passing yards for 185 completions, boasting a 61% completion rate and earning his spot at the top of the conference standings. Over his career, Rollins has contributed 830 rushing yards and 23 rushing touchdowns, consistently using his mobility to extend plays and keep opposing defenses on their toes. His combination of arm strength, accuracy, and athleticism makes him a dynamic leader on the field, guiding the Scots with poise and determination as they prepare to mark their new era within the SAA.
Â
Not only is
Steph Carter Jr. a reliable wingman to Rollins, but he is also a seasoned wide receiver who leads the drives for the Scots' passing attacks. Â Last season, Carter Jr. controlled the offensive game, racking up 969 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns. Making critical plays when it matters the most, Carter Jr. is an essential weapon for the Scot's offense. Alongside Carter Jr. is playmaker
Erozinis Edmondson. Last season, Edmondson recorded 13 receptions for 114 yards and averaged 11.3 yards per catch. Edmondson has also showcased his return abilities with seven kickoff returns, averaging 17.0 yards per return. With their proven ability to make big plays under pressure, Carter Jr. and Edmondson will be crucial in igniting the Scots' offense and setting the tone for what is shaping up to be an exciting and competitive season.
Â
Alongside Carter Jr. and Edmondson is pass-catching threat
Jaden Marlin. Last season, the junior tight end had his breakout season. Starting every game, Marlin recorded 66 receiving yards, highlighting his ability to contribute crucial catches in the passing game. Standing at 6'1 and 240 pounds, Marlin combines size and athleticism to create mismatches against defenders. Standing by Marlin is senior running back
Bryson Claiborne. His growing role in the offense makes him an important piece as Maryville looks to build on last year's success. A transfer from Tusculum, Claiborne made his mark as the team leader in both rushing yards (522) and rushing touch downs (seven). Together, Marlin's versatility and Claiborne's dynamic rushing will be essential in keeping the Scots' offense balanced, yet unpredictable, throughout the season.
Â
Adding to the Maryville onslaught are senior offensive linemen
Levi Stowers,
Cam Robinson, and
Owen Sacks. The experienced trio played a pivotal role in helping the Scots secure their first-ever NCAA playoff victory, while consistently protecting Rollins and opening lanes for the rushing attack. Their leadership and toughness in the trenches will be crucial as Maryville aims to build on last season's historic success.
Â
On the other side of the ball, fifth year
Grant Henderson is coming back for one last run at a national championship ring. Last season, the hardened defensive back totaled 30 solo tackles with 20 assisted tackles. Henderson also contributed 1.5 tackles for loss, 19 pass breakups, and four interceptions, one of which he returned 58 yards for a touchdown. Over his career, Henderson has solidified his reputation as a shutdown player and a cornerstone of the Scots' defense. Henderson's defensive skills were highlighted last season when he was recognized as an All-American First and Second Team recipient. Defending with Henderson is senior linebacker
Jacob Berven. In the 2024 season, Berven recorded 23 solo tackles and 21 assisted tackles. He also contributed 6.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, and one interception. Together, Henderson and Berven bring experience, tenacity, and prowess that will be vital in anchoring the Scots' defense and driving their push for a championship this season.
Â
With a deep roster of seasoned veterans paving the way on both offense and defense, Maryville College football has another championship bound season in their sights. The blend of proven playmakers, hard-nosed linemen, and reliable defensive clamps give the Scots a competitive edge as they face new challenges in the SAA. Fueled by last year's historic achievements and driven by a shared hunger for a national championship, this team's chemistry, resilience, and talent set the stage for an exciting journey. As the 2025 season unfolds, all eyes are on Maryville to see if this experienced core can turn potential into victory and continue to cement their legacy into Scots football history.
