Women's Soccer Drops Final Match in Scots Invitational

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Scots fell Saturday to in-state foe Rhodes College 1-2 on a rain-soaked field.

Rhodes came out of the gates blazing, scoring both of their goals within the first 23 minutes of the match. The Lynx scored a total of seven goals over the course of the two-day invitational.

Senior Hannah Smoot scored the lone goal on the day for the Scots, coming in the 70th minute of play, assisted by Anne Marie Konieczny. That duo has scored and assisted on each of the goals for MC this season.

Looking at the scoresheet, the two teams were extremely evenly matched. Both teams took 11 shots, with Rhodes getting six on goal and Maryville getting five. Both had four goalkeeper saves, with the Lynx earning six corner kicks and the Scots earning four.

Maryville had a few different good looks, especially in the second half, but weren't able to fully capitalize on them thanks to a stingy defensive effort by Rhodes and their goalkeeper.

The Scots look to rebound this upcoming Wednesday as they travel to Sewanee for an evening matchup with the Tigers.
