Women's Basketball Downs Bob Jones - Win Streak at Four

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Maryville College women's basketball team continued its surge Thursday evening, rolling past Bob Jones University 72–47 at the Cooper Athletic Center to extend its longest winning streak of the season to four games.

The Scots (9-7) controlled the game from the opening tip, jumping out to a 21–4 first-quarter lead and never looking back. Maryville's defensive pressure set the tone early, forcing turnovers and fueling transition opportunities throughout the night.

"I thought when we really wanted to, defensively, we got after it again," head coach Darrin Travillian said. "We applied enough pressure on the ball, got a few things in the press, and that got us going in transition."

Maryville matched its opening-quarter output in the second period, scoring another 21 points to carry a commanding 42–15 advantage into halftime. The Scots dominated the glass and capitalized on Bob Jones miscues, repeatedly turning defense into offense.

With the outcome well in hand, Maryville continued to build its lead in the third quarter, pushing the margin to as many as 33 points while maintaining defensive intensity. The fourth quarter allowed the Scots to showcase their depth, as all available players saw action.

"We have an army — we've got 20," Travillian said. "It's not just about rotating whole groups, but mixing younger kids in with veterans so they can run their position and just worry about what they do. Tonight gave us a chance to do that."

Several young players made the most of their opportunities, including Konner Hutson and Charla Young, who provided strong minutes in the paint late in the game.

"Konner has tremendous hands and really good feet," Travillian said. "That's what you want from your post — someone who can catch it, make a move, and have a counter. And Charlotte battled, got offensive boards, and went up strong. It's nice to have more bigs you can rotate in there."

Freshman Chloe Powell continued to show growth as well, building on her recent confidence.

"She's really settling into the speed of the game," Travillian said. "Now you can see her just playing. She can hit big shots, but she's also a hard-nosed defender — scrapping, diving, grabbing loose balls. That matters."

Maryville finished the night with a balanced offensive effort and a decisive advantage in bench production, outscoring Bob Jones' reserves 39–13. Defensively, the Scots limited Bob Jones to 35.6 percent shooting and forced 21 turnovers.

With upcoming games postponed due to weather, Maryville will use the break to reset before entering the second half of conference play.

"We've got a month to try to win this conference," Travillian said. "That's our focus now."
