MOUNT BERRY, Ga. — The Maryville College women's soccer team saw its 2026 season come to a close Thursday afternoon, falling 4-0 to third-seeded Sewanee in the opening round of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament at Berry College's Bob Pearson Field.
The sixth-seeded Scots (6-6-5) battled the Tigers (11-4-3), but an early Sewanee advantage proved difficult to overcome as Maryville's season came to an end in the conference tournament.
Sewanee struck first just 3:14 into the contest when Greer Brantley found the back of the net off an assist from Claire Alexander. Brantley added her second goal of the afternoon in the 15th minute, this time connecting on a pass from Laney Kalsu to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage.
Maryville goalkeeper Paige Silva kept the Scots within reach throughout the opening half, recording four saves before the break. The junior continued her strong effort in the second period, turning away two additional shots.
The Scots looked to generate opportunities offensively in the second half, with Ruby Saylor and Kaylee Mills each putting a shot on target. However, Sewanee goalkeeper Ashley Vinck turned away both attempts to preserve the shutout.
The Tigers added two insurance goals late in the contest. Pope Scurlock scored in the 79th minute off an assist from Lauren Hill before Izzy Maurino capped the scoring in the 86th minute with help from Josie Alexander.
Silva finished the afternoon with six saves while facing 19 Sewanee shots. The Tigers held a 19-3 advantage in total shots and a 10-2 edge in shots on goal. Maryville also earned two corner kicks in the second half.
