The gym has seen thousands of names, but some stay longer than others.
When Chase Morgan's name appeared on the Trevor Hudgins Award Top 25 Watchlist, it marked more than a midseason honor. It was a moment years in the making.
"Man, what a moment," Head Coach Raul Placeres said. "Seeing his name on that Trevor Hudgins Award Top 25 Watchlist—it's not just a list; it's recognition of everything you've poured into this program over the last four years."
In an era defined by movement, Morgan stayed. Placeres didn't hesitate to point that out.
"He has been the definition of loyalty and consistency," he said. "Sticking with us through every season, every grind, every highs and lows, never looking to transfer or chase something easier. You stayed, you grew, you led."
That freshman who arrived hungry is now etched into the program's history—career milestones, including 1,000 career points, 500+ rebounds, and 100+ blocks, as well as elite efficiency in the paint, double-doubles when the team needed them most, rim protection, relentless rebounding, and a leadership style that lifted everyone around him.
"This year alone he is dropping 21-plus a game, shooting lights-out from the field, and anchoring us as we chase another conference title," Placeres said. "That's not luck; that's the work he has put in day after day."
For Placeres, the honor carries weight beyond numbers or accolades.
"I'm proud as heck of him," he said. "Not just for the stats or the hardware—though making this national top 25 as a senior who's done it all at one place? That's special."
To him, Morgan represents something bigger.
"He embodies what Scots basketball is about," Placeres said. "Heart, toughness, and unwavering commitment to the team and the program."
Morgan didn't stumble into this moment.
"He has earned every bit of this spotlight."
