DEMOREST, Ga. – The Maryville College women's basketball team wrapped up the regular season on Saturday afternoon, falling 94–71 on the road at Piedmont in the final game before the CCS Tournament.
Maryville battled throughout the opening half in a tightly contested matchup that featured nine ties and eight lead changes. The Scots stayed within striking distance at the break, trailing 40–36, behind strong perimeter shooting and aggressive play attacking the rim .
Junior Emily Wilson led the way offensively, pouring in a game-high 22 points while knocking down five three-pointers and going 7-for-8 from the free-throw line. Ella Tharpe added 13 points on three made triples, while Kadence Stoner chipped in nine points in the loss .
Maryville kept pace early in the third quarter, using trips to the free-throw line to stay close, but Piedmont began to create separation behind efficient shooting and second-chance opportunities. The Lions outscored the Scots 25–20 in the third before pulling away in the fourth with a 29-point final period .
The Scots converted 27 free throws and competed throughout, but Piedmont's balance proved decisive. Five Lions reached double figures, and the hosts held a 50–31 rebounding advantage while shooting 49.2 percent from the field .
Maryville closes the regular season at 14–10 overall and 10–6 in conference play and now turns its attention to postseason action. The Scots will look to regroup quickly as they prepare for the CCS Tournament.
