MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Maryville's women's tennis team faced off against Pfeiffer University on Saturday, February 28th. While the Scots battled for momentum and had some tight matches, Pfeiffer ended up taking the win 7-0.
Doubles was competitive, but ended up swinging in Pfeiffer's direction. #1 doubles pair Calliana Kondolios and Mckena Spencer had the closest match between all three, getting edged out of their match with a 4-6 scoreline.
Singles proved to look better for the Scots, with multiple close affairs. #3 singles Jasmine Muecke had a topsy-turvy 3 set battle in her match, but it swung Pfeiffer's way with a 2-6 6-2 3-6 scoreline. #4 singles Clara Plass also had a very competitive second set, but also fell in her match 1-6 6-7 (3-7).
"Even without our best tennis going into doubles, we were still competitive with a very solid team," Head Coach Doug Corbett said. "In singles we are close to breaking through in several spots! We're looking forward to the big CCS matches coming up this weekend."
Maryville looks to open up conference play with a win in their next match at Huntingdon College on March 7th. The match will take place at 12 p.m. central time.
