LAGRANGE, Ga. -- The Maryville Scots split a Saturday doubleheader on the road against LaGrange, powering to an 11-1 victory in game one before falling 7-0 in the nightcap.
Maryville moved to 16-10 overall and 2-2 in CCS play following the split.
Dickinson Powers Scots in Game One Rout
Game one remained scoreless through the first two innings before Maryville broke through in the third. Emma Blankenship started the rally with a single, and Sydney Dickinson reached to set up Paige Dickinson, who delivered a two-RBI single to give the Scots a 2-0 lead.
The Scots added to their advantage in the fifth inning with back-to-back power. S. Dickinson launched a solo home run, followed by a Catie Zani solo shot to extend the lead to 4-0. Later in the inning, Olivia Harris doubled home another run to make it 5-0.
After LaGrange pushed across a run in the sixth, Maryville responded with a decisive seventh inning. The Scots plated six runs on six hits, highlighted by a two-RBI hit from Jessica Harris before Sydney Dickinson delivered a grand slam to cap the scoring at 11-1.
Maryville totaled 15 hits in the opener. S. Dickinson led the way, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs. Zani added three hits, while J. Harris finished with two RBIs.
In the circle, Tia Stewart earned the win, tossing six innings while allowing just one run. Whitney Carr closed out the final frame to secure the victory.
Scots Limited in Game Two Loss
Game two saw LaGrange flip the script, holding Maryville to just two hits in a 7-0 defeat.
Emma Blankenship and Sydney Dickinson recorded the Scots' only hits of the contest, as the offense struggled to find rhythm throughout.
LaGrange broke the game open in the fourth inning with a three-run home run, then added four more runs in the fifth, taking advantage of defensive miscues to extend the lead to 7-0.
Maryville was unable to respond, as LaGrange's pitcher tossed a complete-game shutout to even the series.
In the circle, Watiyeli Taylor and Sydney Dickinson combined to allow seven runs, with only three being earned.
Maryville is back in action Wednesday, March 25th, taking on the Wesleyan Wolves at noon and 2:00 PM.
