LAGRANGE, Ga. - Maryville's men's tennis team made a long travel day quick on the courts against LaGrange College on March 29th, making up for their postponed match. The Scots continue their good form against the Panthers, and improve their record to 7-4 on the season.
Doubles were won quickly for the Scots. #1 pair Steven Fitzsimmons and James Smith were the first ones to notch a win for the Scots, downing their opponents 6-3, and shortly after #3 pair Ian Martin and Field Myatt won their match 6-4 to clinch the doubles point for Maryville.
The success continued in singles, starting with Smith blanking his opponent at the #1 position 6-0, 6-0 to put the Scots up 2-0. Grant Price followed suit, beating his opponent 6-0, 6-2 at the #2 position to quickly bump the Scots to 3-0. To clinch, Luka Romano defeated his opponent in a very competitive match at #3 singles 7-5, 6-3.
The rest of the squad displayed Maryville's depth. #5 singles player Eric Vornhagen defeated his opponent 6-3, 6-2 to push for the Scots sweep, and #4 player Benjamin Schneider won his nail biter of a match 6-,2 3-6, 11-9 to set up Maryville to a 7-0 win. The player who delivered the sweep was Gabriel Villalonga Serra, cleaning up at the #6 slot by winning his match 6-0, 6-3.
The Scots next match will be April 1st against CCS opponent Covenant College, with Maryville looking to get an important win and break Covenant's win streak against the Scots.
