MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Maryville Scots closed out tournament play in Columbus on Saturday, earning an 11-9 win over Bethel (Minn.) before dropping a 6-4 decision to Emory later in the afternoon. The split moves the Scots to 12-6 overall on the season.
Across the two games, Maryville scored 15 runs on 11 hits while drawing eight walks and continuing its aggressive play on the basepaths.
Maryville 11, Bethel (Minn.) 9
Maryville used a huge second inning to rally past Bethel in a back-and-forth contest to open the day.
The Royals jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning and adding four more in the second to take an 8-2 advantage. Maryville responded immediately in the bottom half of the second with a seven-run outburst to flip the momentum and take a 9-8 lead.
The Scots added two more runs in the third inning to extend the lead to 11-8 before holding off Bethel the rest of the way. The Royals pushed across a run in the sixth, but Maryville closed the door to secure the victory.
Emma Blankenship led the offense with three hits and one RBIs, while Kaylee Peyret added two hits and one RBIs. Abby Woodard also delivered a hit and scored a run.
Emory 6, Maryville 4
In the final game of the tournament, Maryville struck first but could not overcome a late push from Emory.
The Scots took control early with three runs in the second inning and added another run in the fifth to build a 4-2 advantage.
Emory answered with two runs in the fourth to even the score before breaking the tie with a pair of runs in the seventh to secure the 6-4 victory.
Paige Dickinson led Maryville at the plate with a double. Jessica Harris added a hit and drove in two run.
The Scots are back in action this weekend in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, as they head to the Pioneer Classic.
