Senior Day Sweep!

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Maryville College Scots softball team had a dominant doubleheader performance against the Scotties of Agnes Scott. 

Maryville honored five seniors prior to Saturday's contest, recognizing Emma Blankenship, Whitney Carr, Paige Dickinson, Jessica Harris, and Olivia Harris for their contributions to the program.

Blankenship Senior Day
Emma Blankenship – A four-year outfielder from Maryville, Tennessee, Blankenship earned CSC Academic All-District honors twice during her career and was a three-time CCS Academic All-Conference selection.

Carr Senior Day
Whitney Carr – A pitcher from Knoxville, Tennessee, Carr spent three years with the Scots after transferring from Roane State CC and competed in two seasons. She was a two-time CCS Academic All-Conference selection.


Dickinson Senior Day
Paige Dickinson – A pitcher/utility player from Nolensville, Tennessee, Dickinson completed a decorated four-year career that included two All-CCS Second Team selections, two CSC Academic All-District honors, three CCS Academic All-Conference recognitions, and a spot on the 2024 CCS All-Tournament Team.

J. Harris Senior Day
Jessica Harris – An infielder from Morristown, Tennessee, Harris spent two seasons with the Scots after transferring from Roane State CC. She earned 2025 CSC Academic All-District and CCS Academic All-Conference recognition.

O. Harris Senior Day
Olivia Harris – A catcher from Morristown, Tennessee, Harris joined the program from Middle Georgia and collected 2025 CSC Academic All-District and CCS Academic All-Conference honors during her time at Maryville.
 

Game One: Early Response Powers Scots Past Scotties
Agnes Scott quickly struck first after loading the bases off a walk, hit, and hit-by-pitch. A single to right field and a wild pitch quickly put the Scotties on the board, 2-0.

Maryville did not allow the Scotties to hold the lead for long. Emma Blankenship led off with a walk before Sydney Dickinson singled to right field, moving Blankenship into scoring position. A sacrifice fly from Kaylee Peyret brought in Maryville's first run of the game before Olivia Harris delivered a big-time double to bring in the Dickinson duo and extend Maryville's lead to 3-2. Desiree Nance wrapped up the scoring with a single to third base that allowed O. Harris to score off a third baseman error.

Catie Zani opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second, ripping a double into left-center to bring in S. Dickinson and Blankenship.

After an inning and a half without any runners coming home, S. Dickinson cranked a home run over the fence, bringing in three runs to extend Maryville's lead to 9-2. In the bottom of the fifth, Desiree Nance doubled to left field before Abby Woodard laid down a perfect bunt, allowing Nance to capitalize on an Agnes Scott error and end the first game of the series, 10-2.

In the circle, Whitney Carr threw five innings, facing 23 batters and only giving up two hits and two earned runs, extending her season record to 4-2.


Game Two: Offensive Surge Seals the Sweep
Maryville was locked and loaded at the start of the second game, quickly earning five runs before Agnes Scott could respond. Blankenship reached first on an error, and S. Dickinson followed with a double to left-center to put two runners into scoring position. With a big single to right field, Zani was able to bring in Maryville's first run of the game. After P. Dickinson capitalized on an Agnes Scott error to bring in S. Dickinson, O. Harris flew out to right for a sacrifice fly to up Maryville's advantage to 3-0. A fast double to left-center from Ryleigh Maples brought in Peyret and P. Dickinson to extend Maryville's lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the first.

In the bottom of the second, P. Dickinson and Peyret singled to reach base, and with a bad Agnes Scott throw, P. Dickinson was able to reach home, increasing Maryville's lead to 6-0.

After a scoreless couple of innings, S. Dickinson doubled to right-center to bring in Blankenship to start Maryville's fourth-inning rally. A single from P. Dickinson brought in S. Dickinson, and Peyret followed with a double to left-center, bringing in P. Dickinson and pinch runner Tomi Taylor. Once again, Maples wrapped up scoring in the fourth with a single to left field to extend Maryville's lead to 11-1.

Agnes Scott found their bats a little too late, putting three runs on the board to chip into Maryville's lead, 11-4. Riding off a two-out rally, Zani doubled, and P. Dickinson walked to reach base. Just when it was needed, Peyret doubled to right-center, bringing in Zani and ending the ball game, 12-4.

In the circle, S. Dickinson opened on the mound, throwing 3.1 innings and only giving up one hit and one unearned run. Across 13 batters faced, S. Dickinson threw 56 pitches and struck out six. Jacey Goetzinger wrapped up the final 1.2 innings, facing 12 batters and striking out one.

Your Scots are back in action Saturday, April 18th at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM, taking on conference foe No. 21 Belhaven for Maryville's Alumni Game.
