MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Maryville women's tennis looked to bounce back from their loss against Piedmont today against Agnes Scott. With strong efforts across all lines, the Scots took the win 7-0, moving their conference record to 4-2.
Doubles proved to be the start of the dominant display from the Scots, with all three doubles matches winning with confidence. #1 pair Calliana Kondolios and McKena Spencer continue their good year as a pair with a 6-1 win, #2 pair Maggie Hackney and Clara Plass bounce back to take their doubles match 6-1, and #3 pair Josie McRae and Jasmine Muecke blanked their opponents 6-0. Collectively, they sent the match over to the singles portion with lots of momentum.
Singles proved to be competitive in some matches, but all the matches went the Scots way. Plass at #3 singles continued her great year by blanking her opponent 6-0, 6-0 to push the Scots up to 2-0, Hackney continues her great year in singles by winning her match 6-0, 6-1 at the #5 position. To clinch the match, Spencer beat her opponent 6-1, 6-2 at the #1 position, taking her great match from the day prior into her matchup against the Scottie.
That didn't prove to be the end of the Scots' day, as the matches continued to fall Maryville's way. Kondolios took her opponent down at the #2 singles slot 6-2, 6-2 to push the score to 5-0, and McRae added onto the scoreboard with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the #6 singles position. To close out the sweep, Muecke won her closely competitive match 6-0, 2-6, 10-5 at the #4 singles position, winning the match with a 7-0 overall score.
The Scots look to continue their momentum into their conference match against Belhaven University on Friday, April 17th. If they win, they will secure the third seed heading into the conference tournament.
