MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Maryville's women's tennis team faced off against Covenant College on April 1st in a key conference matchup, with Maryville looking to continue their winning streak against the Scots. With many matchups being won convincingly by Maryville, the Scots took the win 5-2, advancing to 3-1 in the CCS and 6-5 overall.
Doubles didn't start out too well for Maryville. Multiple doubles pairings came close to winning their matches, including #1 pair Calliana Kondolios and Mckena Spencer being one point away from evening the score in their match, but Covenant edged them out in the key moments and took the doubles point.
"We will keep working on the doubles," Head Coach Doug Corbett said. "But I am really impressed how we shook that off and played strong in singles across the board. This was a great team win!"
Singles proved to be a different story for Maryville. Spencer quickly put the Scots back to even, showing poise while steamrolling her opponent 6-2, 6-0 at the #3 position. After Covenant retook the lead, Clara Plass brought it back to even once again, continuing her great from by dusting her opponent 6-2, 6-1 at the #2 position. With the match deadlocked at 2-2, Maggie Hackney dominated her match at the #5 position with a 6-2, 6-1 scoreline to push Maryville to a prime position to win the match. Shortly after, Jasmine Muecke secured the win for the Scots, winning at #4 singles with a 6-4, 6-1 scoreline and pushed Maryville to their third win against CCS opponents. Josie McRae displayed the depth of Maryville's team, winning her match 6-4, 6-3 at the #6 singles slot to beat Covenant by a 5-2 scoreline.
Maryville looks to add another win on the board on April 3rd, facing off against Truett-McConnell University. The match will start at 1:00 P.M.
