MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Maryville's men's tennis team played against Truett-McConnell University on April 3rd, looking to bounce back from their last match and continue their good form against the Bears. Despite an early lead by the Scots, TMU rallied back and ended up taking the match, pushing the Scots to 7-6.
Doubles started strong for the Scots, with all pairs collecting a dominant win to put the Scots on the front foot. #1 pair Steven Fitzsimmons and James Smith opened the scoring for the Scots, winning their match 6-2 and giving #3 pair Grant Price and Benjamin Schneider an opportunity to deliver the clinching line. #3 went on to win their match a couple minutes later, winning 6-2 to give the Scots the upper hand. #2 pair Jackson Meyer and Field Myatt also collected a win for the Scots, winning their match 6-3 to complete the sweep in doubles.
Singles started hot for the Scots, with Myatt speeding his way to a dominant win at the #2 singles slot, blanking his opponent 6-0 6-0 and putting the Scots up 2-0. Not long after, Price cruised to a 6-2 6-3 win at the #1 singles slot to put the Scots up 3-0. However, despite every other match being down to the wire, Maryville couldn't find a way to close out the match.
The Scots look to bounce back against Brevard College on April 7th. The match is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
